Custom Art
Terms and Conditions

I am so excited to make a custom piece of art for you. Before I do, let's make sure we will work well together. Reviewing the terms and conditions before purchasing will help you decide if I'm the right artist for you.

Returns/Refunds/Exchanges

  • Returns, refunds, and exchanges are not accepted for pet portraits or commissioned art.

  • Commissioned art only: If you are unhappy with your commissioned piece you will not be required to pay the remainder owing for the painting. The deposit, however, is non refundable and the artist will keep the painting to either sell to another buyer or use for other marketing purposes.

Process

  • Pet portraits are worked on in the order received. Please fill out the Pet Portrait Request form to start the process. Your painting will not be started on until your invoice is paid. You will receive an email once your piece is ready for pick up or has been shipped. Turn around time is approximately 4-8 weeks. Please be sure to keep an eye on spam folders.

  • Commissions only: a 25% deposit is required to secure your spot for a commissioned piece of art from me for the calendar year. You will be emailed an invoice for the deposit. Filling out the request form, and chatting over email does not secure your spot.

  • I only take so many commissions each year for custom art and each piece is scheduled to be completed sometime within the calendar year. The timeline varies depending on size, complexity and my schedule, but you will get a rough estimate once your painting has begun, with timeline updates as I go along. Upon paying your deposit invoice you will receive a couple thumbnail sketches of your concept within 2 weeks. We will settle on the final composition together by chatting over email, phone or a zoom meeting. The painting will then be started after a final composition has been settled on.

  • Sneak peeks are generally not recommended. Paintings go through a very “ugly” phase and it can be hard for clients to see past that phase and understand where the painting is headed. If a sneak peek is desired, it'll be given closer to completion.

Reference Photos

  • Please make sure photos of your pet(s) are clear, in good lighting, and the features you love are easily distinguishable. If you are sending a photograph from a professional photographer, please make sure you have permission for me to use it as a reference photo.

  • If you do not have reference photos for a commissioned piece of art I will use my own resources to complete the painting. If there is a specific photo you love that you want me to use for your painting, please be sure you own the rights to it, or have permission to use it.

Artist's Rights

  • All art will be free from any political, religious or holiday imagery or reference. If this is requested it will be declined. In some cases alternatives may be possible and suggested.

  • The artist reserves the right to make all final decisions regarding the piece.

  • The artist has the right to use process photos, and images of the completed piece, as well as reference photos for promotional use.

FAQ: What's the difference between ordering a pet portrait and a commission?

Pet Portraits are smaller in size, have a turn around time of 4-8 weeks, and can make great gifts. You are not as involved in the planning of the art piece since all pet portraits are of the shoulders up and have a neutral or coloured background. Pet Portraits are paid in full via invoice prior to the painting being started and cannot be returned, refunded or exchanged.

Commissions, while they may be of a beloved pet, could also be of a favourite wild animal, place or memory. Keep in mind that my skill set lays in animal portraiture, but you may commission me to paint a landscape or inquire about other subject matter as well. A commissioned piece of art is larger in size, and requires payment of a non refundable 25% deposit, with the remainder owing upon completion of the painting. You are involved in the initial design process of the painting, but turn around time could be 3-6 months depending on the size, complexity and my schedule.
